THE SHORT ANSWER

The Eken: Kerala-e-Kurukshetra was filmed in Kochi, Munnar and Alappuzha (Alleppey), according to reporting that cites Anirban Chakrabarti. Raima Sen also confirms shooting at Athirappilly Falls. These four places give you a workable Kerala trip: a harbour city, tea-covered hills, backwaters and a waterfall.

The Bengali film, দ্য একেন: কেরালায় কুরুক্ষেত্র, takes Eken Babu beyond Bengal for another investigation. This guide explains which locations are supported by the cast interviews and what you can visit around them.

Filming evidence: Anandabazar’s location report and Raima Sen’s Sangbad Pratidin interview.

1. Kochi: start with the harbour city

Filming connection: Kochi is named in the location report, and Raima Sen says this shoot took her to Kochi and Munnar for the first time. That establishes the city as a filming area. It does not establish every tourist attraction in the city as a shooting spot.

For a first visit, start on the Fort Kochi waterfront. Kerala Tourism identifies Vasco da Gama Square as a place to see the Chinese fishing nets. Watching the working harbour and walking the waterfront gives you time to take in the city instead of spending the entire day transferring between attractions. Kerala Tourism’s fishing-net guide explains the setting.

Our visit plan: keep your arrival day light. Settle in, walk the waterfront and allow an unhurried evening. If your train or flight arrives late, move the walk to the following morning. This is a sightseeing suggestion; we have not verified the fishing nets as a specific Eken filming backdrop.

2. Athirappilly Falls: the waterfall confirmed by Raima Sen

Filming connection: in her pre-release interview, Raima Sen is asked about shooting at Athirappilly and describes the experience. This is the clearest named landmark in the sources we checked, beyond the broader city and regional locations.

Athirappilly lies in Thrissur district, in the Chalakudy area. It deserves its own outing rather than being treated as something just around the corner from Fort Kochi. Kerala Tourism describes the waterfall and its forest surroundings, and lists nearby Vazhachal as another destination. Read the official destination guide.

Our visit plan: set aside a separate day from your Kochi base. Decide on the return journey before you start, particularly if you are travelling with children or anyone who finds steps difficult. Ask at the entrance about the route to the viewpoints and current access. You can experience the waterfall without trying to reach every path or recreate a camera angle.

Vazhachal can be an additional sightseeing stop if access and the day’s conditions allow. We have not found confirmation that it was used in this film. Follow staff instructions around wet paths and river edges; Kerala Tourism specifically cautions visitors about slippery rocks at Vazhachal.

3. Munnar: tea country and a change of pace

Filming connection: Munnar is named in both the location report and Raima Sen’s account of the shoot. The available sources do not provide a verified list of the production’s tea estates, hotels or individual viewpoints. A photograph of a tea garden should therefore not be treated as proof of an exact scene location.

For your own trip, Munnar offers a different landscape from the coast: tea-growing slopes, hill roads and cooler highland conditions. Kerala Tourism lists Mattupetty, Eravikulam National Park and Top Station among the area’s attractions. Pick a manageable set rather than trying to collect every viewpoint in a single day. See the official Munnar attractions guide.

Our visit plan: stay for two nights if possible. Use the arrival day for the journey and a short outing near your accommodation. Keep the following day for a longer excursion, with time to stop when the weather is clear. Mattupetty or Eravikulam can anchor that day, subject to access and booking availability.

These attractions are suggestions for visitors, not additional confirmed film sets. Check the official visitor arrangements before planning a national-park visit, and ask permission before entering a working tea estate.

4. Alappuzha, or Alleppey: finish with the backwaters

Filming connection: Anandabazar’s report includes Alappuzha among the film’s shooting destinations. We have not verified a particular houseboat, jetty, hotel or stretch of canal used by the production.

The visitor experience here centres on the backwaters and canal network. Kerala Tourism describes options ranging from traditional country boats to houseboats, with waterways connected to Vembanad Lake. A backwater outing can be the focus of your stay without committing to an overnight houseboat. Read the official Alappuzha canal guide.

Our visit plan: decide what you want from the water. A shorter trip can suit a tight schedule; an overnight boat makes more sense when the boat itself is part of the holiday. Ask the operator to put the departure point, route, duration, meals and any overnight arrangements in writing before paying.

Kerala Tourism maintains a houseboat directory and publishes classification standards. Use those as a starting point and confirm the operator’s current details. There is no verified “Eken houseboat” recommendation in this guide.

A six-day Kerala trip around the Eken filming locations

This is BMR’s suggested itinerary, not the film crew’s shooting schedule. It gives each setting some time and uses Kochi as the start and finish. The waterfall day returns to the same base, so you do not have to pack up after every outing.

  1. Day 1 — Arrive in Kochi. Check in and visit the Fort Kochi waterfront if your arrival time allows. Stay in Kochi.
  2. Day 2 — Athirappilly outing. Visit the waterfall, with Vazhachal optional. Return to your Kochi base.
  3. Day 3 — Travel to Munnar. Keep the day mainly for the transfer and a relaxed local outing. Stay in Munnar.
  4. Day 4 — Explore Munnar. Choose one main excursion and leave room for weather changes. Stay a second night.
  5. Day 5 — Travel to Alappuzha. Settle in and confirm the following day’s boat arrangements, or begin a pre-booked overnight cruise.
  6. Day 6 — Backwaters and onward travel. Fit the outing to your departure plan. Add another night if the transfer to Kochi would make a flight or train connection rushed.

Use the route to check distances and connections for your actual accommodation. The map is a planning aid, not a fixed transfer-time promise. If you have fewer days, choose the places you most want to experience instead of squeezing the entire circuit into a short break.

When to go, and what to check before booking

For a first trip combining coast, hills and backwaters, December to February is a practical starting point: Kerala Tourism describes those months as generally pleasant, while the high ranges can be colder. October and November can still bring northeast-monsoon rain, so a Pujo-season trip needs some flexibility. Check Kerala Tourism’s climate overview.

Take rain protection and an extra layer for Munnar. Recheck weather, waterfall access, park arrangements and your boat operator’s departure instructions close to travel. This article does not publish fixed entry fees or package prices: we have not verified live quotes, and a film’s shooting location is not a guarantee of visitor access.

Where was The Eken: Kerala-e-Kurukshetra shot?

The reported filming areas are Kochi, Munnar and Alappuzha in Kerala. Raima Sen’s interview also confirms filming at Athirappilly Falls. The sources are linked in the opening answer and the location sections.

Which waterfall was used in the Eken Kerala movie?

Athirappilly Falls is the waterfall named in Raima Sen’s interview. Nearby Vazhachal is an optional visit in this guide, not a confirmed Eken filming site.

Can I visit the exact Eken shooting spots?

You can plan visits to the named destinations. We do not have a verified scene-by-scene location list or confirmation of access to private estates, accommodation or boats used by the crew.

Was the film shot in Alleppey or Alappuzha?

Alleppey and Alappuzha are names for the same destination. The location report names this backwater area, but does not identify a particular houseboat or jetty.

How many days do I need for this Kerala route?

Our suggested route uses six days, with two nights each in Kochi and Munnar before Alappuzha. Add a night if your arrival or departure times make the connections tight. This is a suggested holiday plan, not a verified crew itinerary.

Do I need an overnight houseboat in Alappuzha?

No. Kerala Tourism describes several kinds of backwater boat outings. Choose the duration and type of boat around your schedule, comfort and a current written quote.

How this guide was checked

Filming claims come from the linked Anandabazar report and Sangbad Pratidin’s cast interview. Visitor information is checked against Kerala Tourism. Specific sightseeing stops and the six-day plan are our editorial suggestions; they do not identify additional film sets. Photographs are credited destination images, not production stills or proof of an exact camera position. Fees, availability and travel conditions should be checked with the relevant operator before booking.
