Best Bengali Movie of Durga Puja 2026: DeSu7 vs Eken vs Bohurupi vs Emperor
Four Pujo films, one review comparison. Live critic scores, original summaries, published ratings and clearly labelled BMR estimates to help you choose.

One Pujo outing, four very different choices. Should you book DeSu7, The Eken: Kerala-e-Kurukshetra, Bohurupi: The Golden Daku or Emperor vs Sarat Chandra? This is a comparison of their reviews, not their ticket sales. The useful question is not just which film has the biggest number, but what the critics liked, what bothered them and how much evidence each score represents.
Which Pujo film has the best reviews right now?
Emperor vs Sarat Chandra currently leads the films with comparable review evidence, at 4.0/5. This is a provisional BMR comparison, including labelled estimates, rather than a final festival verdict. Films without enough evidence remain unranked; a missing score is not a negative review.
Scores and review counts below come from the live film records. Published ratings and BMR estimates are counted separately so you can judge the evidence behind each score.

Dulal Dey · Sangbad Pratidin 4.0/5 · published rating
The gripping sequel improves upon the original through a fast-paced screenplay and exceptional lead performances, despite its musical numbers failing to leave a lasting emotional impact.

How this comparison works
All scores are out of 5. We use each critic’s published overall rating when available, including ratings printed in a graphic. When a written review has no stars, BMR estimates a rating from the full review using the same scoring ladder across films. Every estimate is labelled and counts for 60% of a published rating’s weight. An acting or editing score is not substituted for an overall film rating. Missing evidence stays a dash. The provisional lead requires at least two scored reviews and one published critic rating; ties at the displayed precision are shown as ties. Review summaries are original wording and link to the full source. Box-office earnings do not decide this ranking.
Reading the first reviews: Eken’s mystery or Emperor’s literary drama?
The first written reviews, checked on 15 October, point to different reasons to choose these films. For Eken, the recurring attractions are Anirban Chakrabarti’s performance, the mystery and the Kerala setting. The Wall enjoys the suspense and humour but wants a more formidable villain and a stronger final flourish. IndulgExpress is more persuaded by the antagonist and the film’s respect for its setting, while questioning how little Raima Sen’s character contributes. That disagreement matters more than a small gap between two scores.
Emperor vs Sarat Chandra has stronger agreement about its leads than about its storytelling. The Telegraph, The Wall, BollySpice and IndulgExpress all find reasons to praise the performances. The Telegraph is less convinced by the pace and the development of the political conflict. The Wall responds much more warmly to the historical research and editing. The use of AI imagery is a recurring point of reservation, although the reviewers differ on how much it disrupts the film. Choose this one for a historical and literary debate, with the understanding that its structure divides the critics.
Why Bohurupi and DeSu7 need a fair comparison
A published rating is valuable, but one enthusiastic review cannot establish a festival-wide consensus. Sangbad Pratidin’s overall Golden Daku rating is used exactly as printed; separate acting, direction and screenplay marks are not averaged into a replacement score. The live comparison above shows whether further reviews have joined it.
DeSu7 belongs in the comparison even when its review count trails the Thursday releases. Its entry will fill from the same review records as its film page. Until evidence arrives, the honest answer is that we cannot yet assess how it compares. An empty score is neither a flop verdict nor a recommendation to skip it.
What should you book this Pujo?
Start with the kind of film you want, then read the reservations as carefully as the praise. Eken’s early reviews make their case through its detective adventure, comic rhythm and setting. Emperor’s make theirs through performances, history and political ideas, while raising more questions about pace and presentation. For the other two films, use the growing source list above rather than treating a small opening sample as a final verdict. The provisional score leader can change without any of those individual reviews being wrong.
Which film is winning at the box office?
That is a separate question. Follow the Durga Puja 2026 day-wise box-office tracker for collections, or use each film’s collection link above. A crowded theatre does not change a critic’s verdict, and a higher review score does not establish commercial success. For dates and cast, see the Pujo release guide.
