Rukmini Maitra is now officially the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar in Samuk, a big-budget sci-fi action thriller. Bengali newspapers spell the title Shamuk. Here is what is confirmed, what is only reported, and what readers are asking about a Shah Rukh Khan offer.

- The announcement: on 22 October 2026 the production house Sunshine Pictures announced her name in a social media post, according to Sangbad Pratidin. The post said the team was glad to work with her again after Sanak.
- The makers: directed by Kanishk Varma and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, with Aashin A. Shah as co-producer (Variety India).
- The film: a sci-fi action thriller built around a fight for survival. Variety India reported that shooting was under way in the UK and that a 2027 theatrical release is expected. No release date has been announced.
- Her role: the lead opposite Akshay Kumar. The makers have not described the character.
What is only reported
- Earlier reports: on 2 September 2026 Variety India reported that she was in talks, citing a single unnamed source. The talks have now become an announcement.
- Other cast: NewsBytes reported on 6 October that Swanand Kirkire had joined the cast. We have not seen an official cast list.
- Her schedule: Sangbad Pratidin wrote on 22 October that she is busy with the film and will soon travel abroad to shoot.
- Hindi debut: Variety India called Samuk her first Hindi film, while Wikipedia, citing the Times of India, lists Sanak (2021, opposite Vidyut Jammwal) as her Bollywood debut. Reports differ, so we do not say which is right.
The Shah Rukh Khan story: what is and is not known
Several biography sites, including StarsUnfolded and WikiBio, say she told an interviewer that she was offered the lead in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, the 2008 film with Shah Rukh Khan, and turned it down because she was in Class XI and put her studies first. In the finished film the lead opposite Khan was Anushka Sharma.
We could not verify this. We could not find the original interview, and neither Wikipedia’s page on her nor any major outlet we checked mentions it. Treat it as a claim from fan-style biography pages, not a confirmed fact. We will update this section if she or the makers confirm it.
